Java War Medal, 1825-1830 (Medaille van den Oorlog op Java – War in Java Medal) Bronze engraver marked "VDK" on the obverse, 29.8 mm, corrected ribbon but not original, pitted, contact marks, very fine.The Medal was instituted by Royal Decree on 27 June 1831 and was awarded to Europeans and to native officers who served on Java during the war of 1825-1830 to put down the insurrection against the reimposition of Dutch colonial rule. This was the first campaign medal issued by the Netherlands and is rare.
